Flight School Philosophy

Having ourselves learned to fly in the Last Frontier, Wingnuts Aviation recognizes the need for a comprehensive Alaska flight school that is dedicated to providing quality aviation education.

At Wingnuts Aviation, we understand the hectic lifestyles and financial constraints of our students. Our instructors fly around the student's schedule and strive to provide each student with "the best bang for his buck". For example, rather

than flying multIple times in order for a student to meet the Private Pilot night cross-country and instrument hourly requirements, we include instrument training during the requisite 100 nautical mile night cross-country flight. By combining the hourly  requirements for a pilot's license, Wingnuts Aviation can significantly reduce financial and scheduling strains on our students.

Ulitimately, we believe that flight instruction should be a stress-free and gratifying experience. Come join us and see the difference for yourself!

Brett Crowley and Tara Chesnut

Brett Crowley was born in Fort Collins, Colorado to a family of aviators. Brett's grandfather was a pioneer of large airplane slurry bombing in Wyoming post WWII, and Brett's father was a Captain for United Airlines for 30 years. After discharge from the navy, Brett spent almost a decade in Jackson Hole, Wyoming guiding horseback, whitewater, snowmachine and motorcycle tours. The allure of new challenges brought him north to Alaska where he earned his Pilot's License and then became a Certified Flight Instructor. Brett's affinity for small aircraft and Alaska flying continues to drive him to always improve and refine his piloting skills.

Born in Alaska, Tara Chesnut was raised at the family homestead near the base of

Mt. Susitna. A few times a month, the family would load up in the Aeronca Sedan and fly into town for food and supplies. Spring and fall were spent in Sitka, Alaska where Tara's family commercial fished for black cod, halibut and salmon. A third generation pilot, Tara met Brett while learning to fly. After moving to Wyoming with Brett for two years to manage a small airport, Tara and Brett returned up North to pursue their passion for Alaska flying and instruction.
